O.S.? | We were fortunate enough to travel to Monticello in the spring of 2013 after I attended the NCHE conference in Richmond. Sadly, the weather that day was chilly and over cast, but that did not take away the awe from being in the space at Monticello. As we continued our tour and finished down by Thomas' tombstone, I noticed what I believed to be a different date for his birth followed by O.S. Upon returning home, I did my research and discovered that O.S. stands for the Old Style that was in effect in the colonies until 1752. Using the Old Style, Jefferson's birthday would have been April 2. Love learning! |
